MetroMFT is proud to collaborate with the University of Maryland’s Couple and Family Therapy Program to offer a new workshop designed to deepen clinicians’ cultural responsiveness, clinical skill, and systemic awareness. This in-service training bridges theory, research, and real-world clinical practice.

Grieving Together: Systemic Approaches to Grief Therapy

Presented by Adam Jens Hedelund, M.S., PhD Candidate

It’s one of the most human experiences that we will have. We will all experience loss. And it is most often experienced in the family. Most approaches to grief in research, therapy, and intervention target the individual. This is an incomplete picture. This presentation will explore systemic conceptualizations of grief and how we as systems therapists can serve grieving humans.

Learning Objectives:

  • Attendees will gain a basic understanding of important typologies of grief and important theories of grief that guide conceptualizations of grief.
  • Attendees will consider systemic approaches to grief in both theory and practice. They will explore how to integrate their systems training with relevant grief theory.
  • Attendees will practice using basic interventions, including some grief interventions, to various case examples.
